Flex is a data tiering product that intelligently manages the placement of data between high-performance RAM and cost-efficient NVMe SSD storage.
It ensures that the most frequently accessed, latency-sensitive data remains in memory for real-time (sub-millisecond) performance. In contrast, less critical data is stored on SSD and remains accessible within milliseconds.
This helps customers power terabyte (TB) workloads that are still very fast, but far more cost-optimized.
What is the value proposition?
Flex is built to extend Redis to massive, TB scale workloads and bring Redis into new conversations that may have been cost-prohibitive.
It is up to 80% lower cost per gig vs. RAM alone.
You can choose between 10-50% RAM, and pay accordingly. This lets customers tune performance to precisely what they need — finding the right balance between speed and cost for their specific use case.
What are common use cases?
Feature stores (recommendation systems, personalization, and fraud detection) because they require large datasets, high throughput, and high performance for inference.
Flex also excels with large datasets (1TB+) and high throughput (1 million ops/second plus).
What are the main limitations?
• Not available in Redis Open Source.
• Only available in Redis 8.2 onward in Redis Cloud, and 8.0.2 onward in Redis Software.
• Adjustable RAM:Flash ratio not available in Redis Cloud Essentials plan (rather it is fixed at 10% RAM to provide a low cost Redis option).
• There are plans to include Flex in the Cloud Essentials free trial. Reach out to Ofer Rozenman for details or timing.
• Not available in Azure Managed Redis.
• Does not support Active-Active yet.

I don't see the new pricing on Redis Cloud console. What do I do?
Redis Cloud is still offering a Flex Promo billing unit during the transition period. The new billing structure will be in place starting in June 2026. Your existing deployments will continue to work, and you’ll see the updated pricing reflected in the console at that time.
What does the RAM percentage mean?
The RAM percentage determines how much of your dataset is kept in fast Redis RAM. For example, 20% RAM means 20% of your data stays in RAM while 80% is in a lower-cost storage tier. Lower RAM percentages reduce costs but may have slightly higher latency for less-frequently accessed data.
How does High Availability work?
High Availability (Multi-AZ) replicates your Redis instance across multiple Availability Zones with automatic failover. If one zone fails, your service automatically switches to the replicated instance. This costs approximately 2x the single-node price but ensures 99.99%+ uptime SLA.
Are there data transfer charges?
Inbound data transfer is typically free. Outbound data transfer may incur charges depending on your deployment region and data volume. Premium and Enterprise tiers may have different data transfer allowances. Contact support for details on your specific use case.
Can I change my tier or region after deployment?
Your RAM percentage allocation can be changed after deployment to adjust performance and cost. However, your region and cloud provider are locked at deployment time and cannot be changed later. These foundational settings determine your infrastructure location and provider, while RAM allocation can be optimized based on your evolving needs.
What is included in support?

How do I monitor my Redis instance?
All Flex instances include monitoring dashboards providing comprehensive metrics: RAM and SSD usage, used capacity, traffic (operations per second and IOPS), and RAM vs Flash hit rates. Premium and Enterprise tiers include advanced monitoring and alerting capabilities. Integration with third-party monitoring tools like Datadog and New Relic is available.
